Sign On Letter: 140+ National Organizations Urge Senators to Confirm All Pending Judicial Nominees
Dear Senator,
On behalf of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights and the undersigned 141 national organizations, we write to press the urgency of continuing to build a federal judiciary that lives up to its promise of equal justice for all. Throughout the 117th and 118th Congresses, President Biden and the Senate have made great strides to improve our judiciary through the confirmation of judicial nominees who possess a dedication to civil and human rights. Accelerating this progress and confirming all of the pending judicial nominees is urgent and enduring. We implore you to stay in and do this necessary work. It is essential that we leave no judges behind.
The civil rights community has spent decades advocating for a demographically and professionally diverse federal judiciary that works for all of us, not just the wealthy and powerful. We celebrate the 215 lifetime judicial confirmations during this administration and appreciate the leadership of President Biden, Senate Majority Leader Schumer, and Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Durbin. Many of these confirmed judges possess significant experience protecting civil and human rights and represent communities who have long been excluded from and unrepresented on the bench. Now is the time to make sure that all of the pending judicial nominees, who exemplify the kinds of jurists our country needs right now, are swiftly confirmed. Our democracy is stronger for this progress, and we cannot afford to slow down.
In the remaining weeks of the 118th Congress, the Senate must confirm every pending judicial nominee, many of whom have been waiting for some time and who have deep support from our coalition. This must be done expeditiously, and the Senate must stay in to get it done. Our democracy depends on qualified, fair-minded judges committed to upholding the rights of all of us. We look forward to working with you to continue building a federal judiciary that lives up to its promise of equal justice for all.
Sincerely,
The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights
