Rule of Law

RELEASE: Matt Gaetz is a Disturbing Choice to Lead Department of Justice

WASHINGTON, DC – Upon reports that Congressman Matt Gaetz has been tapped by president-elect Trump to be Attorney General, Constitutional Accountability Center Vice President Praveen Fernandes issued the following reaction:

It is deeply distressing to learn that Congressman Matt Gaetz has been tapped to be the nation’s next Attorney General.  The explicit mission of the Department of Justice is, in part, to “uphold the rule of law,” yet Congressman Gaetz has publicly and repeatedly denied that the violent attempt to overturn the will of the voters on January 6, 2021, was an insurrection, despite the results of the painstaking factfinding by numerous governmental bodies, including the bipartisan January 6th Select Committee and the Colorado state courts.  It is difficult to understand how someone who has distorted the truth about an attack that killed and injured numerous law enforcement officers could be qualified to be our nation’s top law enforcement officer. Anyone who believes in the rule of law and fidelity to the Constitution and other federal laws should be concerned about such a nomination.
