Supreme Court Practitioners To Senate Leaders: “Expeditiously Consider And Vote” On Nominee

Washington, DC – Today, a letter signed by more than a dozen prominent attorneys who practice before the U.S. Supreme Court was delivered to the leadership of the U.S. Senate explaining the need for a “fully functioning Supreme Court” saying that, “it is imperative that the President expeditiously name a nominee, and that the Senate expeditiously consider and vote on that nominee.” They go on to say:

[W]e practice in different settings and in different areas of the law. We have different ideologies and no doubt would have many different views on any given case. But we are united in the belief that a fully functioning Supreme Court is of vital importance to the country.

Among the letter’s diverse signatories are a liberal lion, an alum of the Solicitor General’s Office under President Reagan, partners in the biggest Supreme Court practices in major law firms, and former Supreme Court clerks.
