Statement of Doug Kendall, President of the Constitutional Accountability Center

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 4/17/2009 - The Obama Administration rightly decided today to follow the law and begin regulating greenhouse gases under the Clean Air Act. With the approval of this long-awaited “endangerment finding,” the Administration complies with the Supreme Court’s 2007 mandate in Massachusetts v. EPA – decided two years ago this month – and makes an essential first step towards a comprehensive federal response to global warming.

March 4, 2009 - Today is a great day for Diana Levine and for our Constitution.  The Constitution requires that the federal government and the Supreme Court respect the role of the States in protecting their citizens, and Justice Stevens’ opinion does just that.

Constitutional Accountability Center filed a brief in the Supreme Court today supporting the United States and a coalition of civil rights organizations in Northwest Austin Municipal Utility District No. 1 v. Holder (NAMUDNO), a case in which a utility district in Texas has challenged Congress’s 2006 decision to reauthorize a critical provision of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, one of our country’s most important civil rights laws.
