Job Announcement: Policy Counsel

CAC is now accepting applications to fill the new position of Policy Counsel, an attorney whose responsibilities will include planning, managing, and, working with other members of the CAC team, executing initiatives for promoting CAC’s goals with Congress, including:
- enhancing recognition of the importance of the courts for the achievement of progressive goals;
- educating Members of Congress and staff concerning decisional trends and selected pending cases that pose substantial threats to, or provide opportunities for furthering, progressive constitutional principles and effective enforcement of progressive laws;
- research and writing, including testimony, reports, articles, blog posts, and other presentations about legal, legislative, and policy matters that implicate progressive constitutional values.
Depending on the experience of the Policy Counsel, the Counsel may also help research and write CAC Supreme Court and appellate court briefs and other materials.
The Policy Counsel will report to CAC’s Senior Counsel, Simon Lazarus, and help coordinate the policy and Congress-related work of other CAC team members.
J.D. and excellent academic record are required.
The ideal candidate will be at least three years out of law school and have congressional staff experience in a policy or legal position.
The applicant must be a member of the District of Columbia Bar or eligible upon hire to seek admission without examination.
The applicant must also be a creative and rigorous thinker, a talented writer, a skilled legal researcher, a team player, and committed to CAC’s mission of promoting a progressive vision rooted in the Constitution’s text and history.
