Job Announcement: Director of Impact Litigation
Position Summary
CAC is now accepting applications to fill a newly-created position, Director of Impact Litigation, an attorney who will design and oversee the development of an impact litigation program for CAC devoted to bringing cases in federal district court intended to achieve progressive outcomes rooted in constitutional text and history. In particular, the Director of Impact Litigation will:
- identify and assess cases with the potential for important legal victories for progressives
- develop and file such cases
- supervise and work with other CAC attorneys in litigating these cases
- help identify and procure outside pro bono co-counsel for these cases, and work with them on the litigation
The Director of Impact Litigation will report to CAC’s Chief Counsel.
Qualifications
J.D. and excellent academic record are required.
A minimum of five, and a preference of ten, years of litigation experience is required, including significant experience litigating claims, particularly constitutional claims, in federal district court.
Experience in developing impact litigation for another public interest organization is highly desirable.
The applicant must be a member of the District of Columbia Bar or eligible upon hire to seek admission without examination.

Job Announcement: Opinion Shop Writer
Constitutional Accountability Center (CAC) is a think tank, law firm, and action center dedicated to fulfilling the progressive promise of our Constitution’s text and history. The Center was launched in June 2008 to reclaim the Constitution’s text and history for progressives, to help move the judiciary in a more progressive direction, and to use arguments rooted in text and history to win court victories. Position Summary
CAC is establishing an Opinion Shop to consistently and comprehensively reach out to editorial writers, columnists and op-ed editors to help scale up the organization’s ability to deliver its message about the Constitution and the Courts.
CAC seeks a highly motivated and talented individual to serve as the Opinion Shop’s Writer. The Opinion Shop Writer will be responsible for:
- Taking the lead in developing content for the Opinion Shop, primarily by generating or editing opinion pieces for publication by CAC staff, leadership or other prominent spokespeople.
- Working with the Opinion Shop Director in producing Editorial Toolkits on breaking topics and in developing relationships with editorial writers, columnists and op-ed editors at news outlets across the country to gain their permission to draft – and secure publication of – pieces on their behalf.
- Working with CAC’s Press Secretary in developing story pitches around CAC’s work.
- Other writing projects for CAC at the Direction of CAC’s President and Vice President.
Qualifications
The applicant must be a skilled and talented writer, able to write quickly, clearly, and persuasively for a lay audience about substantive legal and constitutional issues. This is not an entry level position – the applicant must have a significant record of writing for publication in the popular press. A law degree is expected, but not absolutely essential for an applicant with a significant record of writing on legal topics.
