Position Summary

CAC is now accepting applications to fill our second Appellate Counsel position, an attorney whose responsibilities will include:

  • assisting the Chief Counsel in all aspects of CAC litigation, including Supreme Court and appellate court brief writing;
  • assisting with the review of petitions for certiorari on the Supreme Court’s “paid” docket to help identify cases in which CAC may support review.

The Appellate Counsel reports to CAC’s Chief Counsel.


J.D. and excellent academic record are required.

The ideal candidate will be 2-5 years out of law school (although we will consider applicants who are completing appellate court clerkships).

The applicant must be a member of the District of Columbia Bar or eligible upon hire to seek admission without examination.

The applicant should identify closely with, and be committed to, the achievement of CAC’s mission of promoting a progressive vision rooted in the Constitution’s text and history. The applicant must also be a creative and rigorous thinker, a talented writer, a skilled legal researcher, and a team player who can operate successfully among smart, progressive, and mission-oriented people.
